Changing Table to Workshop!

So in case you haven't heard... Joey and I love garage sale-ing. I grew up going to lots of garage sales and putting one on every year so when we moved from Houston and my sister-in-law Becky told me how great they are here it became our Saturday morning routine. If you're totally grossed out by garage sales and thinking, "she's crazy!" stick around and skim the rest of my post. You would be shocked at the stuff that people get rid of that is still in great condition!

Several weeks ago I found this tool set at a garage sale: the orange toolbox that turns into a workbench with 4 power tools and several other tools for just $5! Toys are probably the hardest thing to pass up at garage sales because Joey sees them and loves them and they are so cheap! But we only have so much space and let's be honest... Joey only needs so many toys. So we decided this would be his birthday present.

Here he is leaving the garage sale with his tool box.

So Joey said bye bye to the tools and I kept hunting for a toy hammer and anything else to complete his set. I saw this idea on Pinterest:

My parents were moving and getting rid of a beautiful changing table that my dad hand made many years ago. Not like the Ikea comes in a box and put together but literally from scratch built it. I was kind of sad that it was just going to get thrown in a church garage sale and that whoever ended up with it may appreciate it but have no idea where it came from! So I told my dad what I wanted to do with it and he helped I mean he attached a peg board to the back. I helped him measure...

The changing table was in great shape (except for the white sticker remnants on the top) but the peg board needed some serious help. I debated trying to cut down the changing table to just two levels so that Joey could reach without a stool but just couldn't take a saw to it! As it turns out it makes nice shelving and he can reach the top on his stool.

I used a roller and just rolled on paint over a drop cloth. I was worried about it dripping through and clumping but I just never put too much on the roller and it was really easy! I didn't prime since it was a dark color and I did 3 coats. I used a foam brush in the spots that I couldn't get with a roller.

I love how it turned out!

Here it is with all of the treasures I found!

Several of the items are from our childhood or were given to us such as the hard hat, humpty dumpty blocks, Astros lunch box, and building blocks. My friend Blake made the Joseph banner for his Sip n' See.

I found the remote control fork lift at a garage sale for $0.50 and my mom got him the power hedge trimmer for $1 I think. We already had the tractor stool ($1 at a garage sale).

Including the paint ($12) and paint supplies everything I found was just over $20!

Joey loves it!
