Potty Training Fun

Joey is... potty trained! Woohoo!
Last Wednesday we celebrated 10 days of no accidents and no diapers (except at night- I am enjoying sleeping through the night and would like to as long as possible) with a trip to Shipley's. He looked at all of the donuts and picked a "brown round circle one". Whew. I don't think I could have handled the sugar high that would have accompanied a frosted/ sprinkle covered donut.

Our first day was spent outside or in the kitchen (on the tile floor) or on a plastic mat... He figured out after 2 accidents to hold his potty until he was sitting on the toilet.

By the second day he had pretty much figured it out but was fighting going poo poo on the toilet... so frustrating because in the past month or so he has gone on the toilet randomly! He knows how to do it and he has been successful doing it before. Why he decided to be stubborn I really don't know... so after a week of him begging for a diaper to poop in and two poo poo accidents we made him a little sticker chart. There were just 4 sections on a half sheet of paper and he got to fill each section with stickers when he went #2 on the toilet. I can't believe how well it worked. His prize for filling the chart was going to gymnastics. Between you and me, I was planning to take him before this whole chart idea came up. I think I would have been more devastated if he didn't get to go because we were starting to go a LITTLE crazy with the cold weather and being stuck inside.

I was realllllly dreading potty training for some reason. It just seemed so risky... I mean, I don't want to clean up a mess. Especially since our house is 75% carpet. But by the time I took off four or five dry diapers after nap time (and one from overnight) it was getting a little ridiculous. Plus I'm feeling pretty good right now and probably won't be up for it in the weeks to come (T minus 7 weeks til baby sister comes!... or less?).

Next step: moving to the big potty and getting his pants back up by himself!
